Daniel C. Matt

Dr. Daniel C. Matt is considered one of today’s pioneering interpreters of Jewish mysticism, especially in applying it to modern life. “Religion and science,” he says, “each represent one piece of wisdom’s puzzle. By listening carefully and critically to both, we can attain an integrated understanding of the cosmos.”

Formerly a professor of Jewish spirituality at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, he is the translator and annotator of Zohar: Annotated and Explained (SkyLight Paths) and author of The Essential Kabbalah (HarperSanFrancisco).

Matt received his PhD from Brandeis University and has taught at Stanford University and Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Dr. Matt currently lives in Berkeley and is devoting himself to translating the Zohar. The first three volumes of The Zohar: Pritzker Edition have been published by Stanford University Press.
