Vicki L. Abbott, of McKinney, Texas, began in the sport as a child. Experienced in several breeds, she says that "it was the beauty of the Maltese that captured my heart and finally consumed my interest."

Beginning in the early 1970s, Mrs. Abbott was a breeder-owner-handler of her BIS and specialty-winning Maltese, under the Scylla banner, and a professional handler for others. She handled many of the top Maltese of recent times, winning the breed at Westminster five times with five different dogs and BOB at the national specialty four times with four different dogs. She is the recipient of two Quaker Oats Awards and the Best New Female Professional Handler Award (1992), presented by her peers.

Mrs. Abbott judges the Toy Group, most of the Non-Sporting Group, Poodles, Manchester Terriers, Juniors, and Best in Show. Judging highlights include the 1993 Maltese national and the Portland Rose City Classic, televised by Animal Planet.

A member of the American Maltese Association for more than 30 years, she has held many important club offices, including national-specialty chair. Mrs. Abbott was a teacher before turning professional handler, and is an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
