Description: The men of the 487th Bomb Group were nicknamed the "Gentlemen from Hell" in 1943 during final phase training before going overseas. The training was held in Alamogordo, NM. After experiencing the heat, a Royal Air Force official refused to train his men there because "it would be like training them in Hell." (Taken from information submitted by 487th veteran Don Partain.)
This book is a compilation of personal accounts of the men who served in the 487th Bomb Group during World War II. These accounts exemplify the hard work, dedication and sacrifice these men provided their country in the face of great danger, including serving as the leaders of the largest Eighth Air Force mission of the war during the Battle of the Bulge.
It's been 60 years since these men left a portion of their youth in various parts of Europe, but their words tell the stories in a way that makes it feel like World War II just ended. From humpr to heartache, the reader will run the gamut of emotions when examining the memories of these brave men of the 487th Bomb Group - the Gentlemen from Hell.
301 Pages, 6" x 9" Hardbound with full-color Dust Jacket.
** Half of the proceeds from this book will be donated to the Men of the 487th Bomb Group Treasury, to preserve their memory. |
